Ambert is about 1hr 30mins by road from either Clermont-Ferrand or
St-Etienne both of which have International airports. Lyon is around 2.5hrs and is served by an international airport and the high-speed TGV rail link from Paris.
Due to the competitive nature of the travel business; fares, timetables and routes seem to be constantly changing. Therefore our advice would be to shop around for the best deal. As a general rule, cost is directly proportional to convenience.
If you’re looking for the best rates, a departure midday or midweek is probably a good place to start. If you have some flexibility regarding out or return dates/times, always try a couple of variations in the online booking forms, it can make quite a saving.
